Job description

Title: WHS Assistant (Afternoon Shift)
Location: Northern Suburbs, Western Australia
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Range: $71,500 – $75,000 (based on experience)
Shift Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on WHS Assistant to join our Client's team at a busy manufacturing organisation in WA. This is a junior-level, entry-point role into Work Health & Safety (WHS), ideal for someone eager to gain practical experience in an industrial environment. Working primarily on the afternoon shift, you'll act as the eyes and ears of the WHS team across the plant, ensuring safety procedures are followed and engaging with team members on the floor.
You’ll spend approximately 65% of your time in the workshop and 35% on administrative tasks. This is not a desk-only position — you'll be actively involved in frontline safety activities and communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and support WHS compliance for the afternoon shift (35–40 team members).
  • Perform routine checks: breathalyser testing, PPE compliance, workplace and forklift safety inspections.
  • Deliver safety inductions, including for workers with limited English — clear communication is key.
  • Assist with internal training, including coordinating and helping run refresher courses.
  • Run toolbox talks and encourage open, proactive WHS dialogue.
  • Draft, edit, and manage WHS documentation, including procedures and reports.
  • Provide admin support.
About You
  • You're eager to start and grow a career in WHS.
  • You don’t need a Cert IV or Diploma yet — just a strong interest and some hands-on exposure to safety practices.
  • You have a confident, outgoing personality and enjoy being part of a team.
  • You're not afraid to speak up, take initiative, and “have a go.”
  • You’ve worked in diverse teams and understand the importance of strong, clear communication.
  • You’re comfortable leading both formal and informal conversations and fostering a safety-first culture.
What We Offer
  • Structured, hands-on experience in a real-world WHS environment.
  • Ongoing training and development after probation — we’ll invest in your qualifications.
  • A supportive team culture where questions and initiative are welcomed.
  • Mentorship from experienced WHS professionals and senior leaders.
